The not expected mid week update...but I had to tell you!

This was my second run of the week and the reason why I'm telling you about it now is because this was a real test of whether I was committed to achieving my goals. The weather was wet and windy and when I say windy, this day puts Winnie the Poohs blustery day to shame. I chose to do 2 circuits of Emberton lake, a distance of 3.6 miles primarily flat (no hills, that's my kind of run) and set off at 12:15pm.

I drove to the park, only a 5 minute drive but it was starting to rain........lucky me, wind and rain, what a perfect combination for a pleasurable run. The good news was that it stopped raining when I started running, obviously a good omen and I chose to start my run with the wind to my back (I'm actually thinking about this running lark now). After quarter of a mile I find that the lake has overflowed onto the path and blocked my route......what do I do now??? It's time for a little cross country and I take to the horse trail. Now this was an experience, slippery and windy, with my legs feeling like lead as they forced their way through the mud. It's at this point that I must express my respect to all you runners that tackle cross country routes....I salute you all. I get through the mud and I'm back on the path......this is great, but who turned up the speed on the wind machine. I pass a couple walking their dog and they comment "you're brave running in this weather"........ the thought runs through my head "brave or stupid???".

I finish my first circuit in 16 minutes and contemplate calling it a day but I stick to my guns and start my second circuit. The second circuit is no easier but the thought that this is the final lap keeps me going. I finish the run in 33.46 minutes (3 miles), not out of breath but definitely feeling the effect of the run, I don't think my legs could have carried me another step.

So there you have it, I've tackled the elements and won.

Well done darling, I'm very proud of you. Having run today myself, around Willen I can confirm the extremely windy conditions. Not a day for the faint hearted, so a big pat on the back for todays run xx
