Week 3......and I'm really starting to enjoy myself

Here I am completing week 3 of finding the new Gordon Passee and guess what.....I'm really staring to enjoy the whole thing. Is this wrong, should I be enjoying the task of achieving my new year resolutions, isn't it at this point where I decide I've given it my best shot so now lets get down to my normal way of life. Well it's not to be, there's no stopping me, lets get going with week 4.

So how has it been, what stories do I have to tell.....are you all sitting comfortably, well I'll begin.

Sticking to my fitness regime has again been a success, 3 runs for the week the real test being my first run, details of which were posted in my midweek update. My second run which was my first early morning run (6:15am start.....did you know it's still dark at this time?). A circuit of Olney (no change there) run in an aniti clockwise direction and being completed in........oh no, I forgot the stopwatch. Truth is I couldn't find the stopwatch because it's very hard to look for something in the dark (would you switch on the bedroom light with your nearest and dearest still enjoying his/her nights sleep.....the language would be too much to bear). So what have I learnt about early morning runs..........it's dark outside and make sure you have everything you need ready the night before.

My third run was on Saturday evening 20th January, the trip was.......can you guess.....that's right a circuit of Olney (this route will change as I need to up my distance, so runs will become more varied). A good run completed in 26.52 minutes and a run that I was itching to get out and do....I told you I was starting to enjoy my running. What I did notice about this run was that there were no other runners out on a Saturday night, there was however alot of people going out for the evening. This got me to thinking, now where could they be off to? was it the pub or a restaurant and why wasn't I doing the same.........truth be known, if I wasn't running I wouldn't being going out anyway it was never part of my normal Saturday night routine......so at least now I can say that "I'm doing something worthwhile". I also received some words of encouragement from a stranger who shouted out "well done" as I ran past...........I replied "thank you" even though my mum told me never to talk to strangers but I am a grown up (so any children reading my blog, listen to your parents and don't talk to strangers). ......aren't people nice in Olney.

New Fitness Program
An addition to my fitness regime is a course of vibro sessions which is my way of toning my Denzelesque body. My first session is on Wednesday so I will tell you more about it then (mid week update, I said it could become a permanent feature). However if you can't wait to find out more about vibration training, go to the following website:

So how was the diet, all in all a good week with just a couple of weak moments. My first moment of weakness was when Sarah (a good friend) came round for a drink. Now a couple of pints is purely social and can be forgiven, however the craving for crisps which was driven by the alchohol was not so good and unfortunately the craving was too strong for me to fight........ and I did fight it all the way from the living room to the kitchen.......but alas, the fight was lost and the crisps won (dam those crisps to hell and back).

My second moment of weakness was after I had cooked a nice meal for Rachael and myself, haddock wrapped in parma ham on a bed of lentils, carrots and celery, served with crushed new potatoes and brocolli (a healthy dish don't you think?). Following the meal I retired to the kitchen to clear up and it was then that I heard a voice from the kitchen drawer saying "eat me.....eat me". I opened the drawer and was confronted with the temptation of Oliver's Christmas Box of Maltesers.
Now here we have a chocolate with a light centre (that's what the advert says) so surely one wouldn't hurt! A dozen chocolates later (please don't tell Oliver, I will replace them) and I realised my madness. Feeling guilty (and not because I had eaten Oliver's sweets) I decided I could work off the calories via a vigorous session of washing dishes, a workout I can strongly recommend.

So what was the outcome after week 3, my weight at the end of the week 2 was 83.2kg (13.1st) and my weight today is.........82.2kg (12.9st) a loss of 1kg (2.2lbs)......."go on my son, get in there". It's not the target loss of 3lbs, but again it was close and anyway a loss is better than a gain.

What does week 4 hold for me......3 running sessions, 2 vibro sessions and a target weight loss of 3lbs.

A man after my own heart. Well not exactly 'cause I like to sit down and drink beer and imagine what it must be like to be streaming across the Olney landscape like a gazelle touched with fairy dust .... keep up the good work
